On this cold and sunny day, we made the base of a holly wreath at the woods.
First, Mum gathered ten hazel branches. Then, I bent a branch into a circle, and Mum wrapped some wire where the two ends were overlapping. Next, we took another branch. While Mum held the circle and the end of the new branch, I weaved the new branch round and round the holly wreath— we kept on doing this until we ran out of branches and cut off any bits that snapped or were sticking out.
I really enjoyed making the base, especially wrapping the branches round the first one. It was really tricky weaving some of the branches: I struggled to wrap the ones that split at the end and that had bumps because they kept getting stuck.
Next time, we will be attaching holly leaves to the base. I hope the spikes don’t get me!
