Great Rift Valley Hike

With a view of Mount Kenya in the distance, the life of the Great Rift Valley is bathed in sunlight as the sun slowly rises into the sky.

A path can be followed through the lush grassland but is blocked by a herd of mighty wildebeest as they graze. Nearby, eland slowly chew the grass and a rhino lays in the warm sun. However, peace soon turns to chaos as a pride of lions exit a cave and simultaneously unleash their powerful roars. Wildebeest and eland stampede in all directions. The rhino flees into the calm forest.

As travellers quickly follow the dung-covered track, they enter the forest. The occasional leopard is visible as it calmly watches the herds in the grassland from the trees. Hikers look up in amazement as giraffes cross the muddy track to feast on the green canopy.

As the path leaves the forest, it leads to a small incline that provides an incredible sight: the brilliant blue waters of Lake Nakuru reflecting the blinding sunlight. In stark contrast, the lake’s bank is coated in mud and animal tracks. Rhinos roll in the mud while elephants drink and flamingos calmly rest in the water. The path follows the lake for a short while and then enters a large cave, exiting the Great Rift Valley.
