Father’s Day

Today, I read the occasional poem “Occasional Poem” by Jacqueline Woodson which led to me writing my own.

On twenty of June,
A girl was walking and so was a boy.
The girl was June,
While the boy was Coy.
They were thinking,
“What present for Dad?”

They bumped into each other
And thought together.
“Let’s throw our Dads a Christmas!” exclaimed Coy.
“It’s summer!” replied June.
“We’ll throw a party and give our Dads a present and card.”
“Let’s ask our classmates for help or it shall be hard.”
“Let’s throw it Sunday at noon.”

The party was successful
Year after year
And became Father’s Day.
