In English, I have been learning about epistolary poems. First, we looked at two of these poems in the form of letters. The first, “Dear March—Come in—,” by Emily Dickinson, was to the month of March and was about nature. The second, “Dear David,” by Mathew Burgess, was to an author about books. Then, I wrote a poem to Slifer, a character from Yu-Gi-Oh, and his reply to me. Here are the letters:
Dear Slifer,
How are you—
You must be—
How are Obelisk and Ra—
How is the kingdom—
Your smooth red back—
Your dark black belly—
Your sharp pointy teeth—
Your glistening yellow eyes—
I wish, I wish …
That you will watch over me—
From,
TK
Dear TK,
We are well—
We have built the light giver and
We are going to work on the castle today.
I am not going to watch over you, but all three of us are.
I hope your studies are going well—
Are you enjoying them?
What’s your favourite topic?
I bet school wears you out.
I know you are busy, but …
Please suggest something for the city—
From,
Slifer
Next, like Emily Dickinson, I will be writing to something that is not a living thing or character.
