Soon after Beowulf killed the sea hag, his king died. After fifty years of Beowulf being king, a slave finds a dragon’s hoard and steals a golden cup. Knowing that his treasure has been stolen, the dragon wakes up and burns the Geat kingdom. After having a fire-proof shield made, Beowulf goes to find the dragon with eleven warriors. The killer of Grendel wounds the winged serpent with his ancient sword, but doesn’t kill it. All of the warriors (apart from Wiglaf) abandon Beowulf. The dragon grabs the king by the neck, poisoning him. Wiglaf frees Beowulf and together they stab the dragon to its deserved death. Dying, the old hero tells his warrior to give the dragon’s hoard to his people and to make a tomb called Beowulf’s barrow. As his master wished, Wiglaf makes a tomb for him. He burns Beowulf’s body and puts the ashes and some of the dead serpent’s treasure in the tomb.
