Dear Mr and Mrs Jackson,

I am writing to apologise and explain about the shipwreck of Swallow.

The rest of the Swallows and I were going to Horseshoe Cove. I wanted to impress Nancy, who was at the cove with Peggy, so I decided not to jibe. All his lead to was the shipwreck of Swallow. After the salvage of your boat, we sent Swallow to be repaired.

I am very sorry. Please let me know if there is anything I can do.

Your sincerely,
John Walker

This second part is an informal letter to John’s friend, Tom, about the shipwreck of Swallow.

Hello Tom,

I am writing to let you know about the shipwreck of Swallow.

My family and I were going to Horseshoe Cove. I wanted to impress one of our pirate friends, who was at the cove, so I decided not to jibe. This led to the shipwreck of Swallow. Now, Swallow is being repaired. I am very sad because the shipwreck was my fault.

We are currently living in Swallowdale, expecting an attack from our pirate friends.

Your friend,
John
