Today, we went on a 4.5 mile walk, taking in part of the Monsal Trail and the Longstone villages.
We started our walk at Monsal Head.
After a steep descent to the trail, we stopped to take a couple of photos on the viaduct of the River Wye.
Then, we entered the Headstone Tunnel which is around 400 m long. It was quite spooky because of how dark it was.
We could see the shale walls as we walked through the cutting. These were formed when the area was a tropical sea near to the equator.
A little further on, we came across the old Ashford Station. It was fun going on the platforms.
There were lovely views across the fields, as we made our way further along the trail.
After a short stop for lunch, we headed up a large field filled with crops.
The next part of the walk was through the village of Great Longstone. Several fields and squeeze stiles later, we reached the final field that led down to Little Longstone. This field was full of mother sheep with their lambs; there was one sheep who loved to say “baa”.
Finally, we made our way through Little Longstone back to Dad, who was waiting for us in the car park at Monsal Head.
It was very tiring, but it was worth it!
