Cusworth Hall

This week, Mum and I went for a walk from the woods to Cusworth Hall.

First, we walked through Sprotbrough village. Eventually, we came to a path that went between a wheat field and a potato field. Further on, we were able to see our destination, Cusworth Hall. When we came to a right turn, we saw a metal and brick barn. In the distance, we could see the A1, which we drive on to get to Sprotbrough woods. We were expecting to be going over the A1, but we actually went through a tunnel. I think we didn’t see the tunnel at first because it was surrounded by grass. When we were through the tunnel, we could see the chimneys of Cusworth Hall sticking out of the trees.

When we got to the lake at Cusworth Hall, we found a bench. This is where we had lunch. After lunch, we walked round the lake. I went on a bridge to have a look at a dam. I think it is used to stop flooding: when the water gets too high in the upper lake it flows over the dam into the lower lake. After going past the bridge, we saw some water lilies. Once we had got round to the other side of the lake we saw a swan, a coot and a coot chick. Unlike the chick, the adult coot had a white beak. Further round the lake, I spotted a willow tree on an island.

Since it wasn’t a circular route, to get back we had to retrace our steps. While we were going through the village, we saw a baby pigeon in the undergrowth by the pavement. I think I hadn’t seen it until Mum pointed it out because it was as still as a stone statue.

When we got back to the woods, I played the wolf simulator game on my tablet, in the school tent. I really enjoyed the day out, especially going through the fields and round the lake.
