Beowulf: Part One

We started reading Beowulf because it was mentioned in the Saxon book I read.

The King of Demark, Hrothgar, gets a great hall built where people can eat. In the hall people listen to a story about how God created Earth. Outside the hall Grendel, a monster, listens to the story. Because the story is good Grendel doesn’t like it. Grendel kills Hrothgar’s people for twelve years. One day, Beowulf (a brave Geat prince) and some of his men sail to Demark to kill Grendel. That night, Beowulf waits for Grendel in the hall. When the beast comes Beowulf grabs Grendel. No matter how much the beast shakes Grendel can not shake off Beowulf. The brave prince twists off the monster’s arm. The monster goes to its lair, losing blood with every step. As a reward, Beowulf is given a necklace with a precious jewel. Beowulf, Hrothgar and his people do not know that the joy will be over before the night ends.
